Hepatitis B & C (hep-a-ty-tis)

Hepatitis Types B & C can be spread through sexual contact, contact with body fluids through non-sexual contact (usually healthcare workers) or from a woman to her baby. It is a virus that attacks the liver system and leads to yellow jaundice, high fever, nausea & vomiting and abdominal pain. Some people have no symptoms at all. If it isn’t completely cleared from the body it can lead to cirrhosis or liver cancer. People in the United States who were born since 1991 received a vaccination for Hepatitis B and adolescents have been required to receive the vaccine since 1996. There is no vaccine for Hepatitis C.
