STDs (Sexually Transmitted Diseases)
Chlamydia (clu-mid-e-ah)
Chlamydia
is the most commonly reported bacterial infection that you get from having sex.
It spreads because of contact with infected semen (cum) or vaginal fluids. Men
and women don’t usually know they have an infection. For this reason women can
have it spread into a pelvic infection (PID) that leaves pus in the uterus,
fallopian tubes and abdomen. PID can lead to a life threatening pregnancy in
the fallopian tubes (Ectopic pregnancy) or the damaged tubes keep the woman
from becoming pregnant (Infertile). Sadly some women who don’t know they are infected also pass Chlamydia to their children during childbirth. If men get symptoms they may only have an increased need to urinate or feel pain in their genital area, but not commonly.
